St. Charles County parents have convenient access to the highest-rated pediatric care in the metro area thanks to St. Louis Children’s Hospital at Progress West HealthCare Center.
Children are not small adults. They are special individuals who have age-specific developmental needs and require weight-based interventions. It’s crucial to have experienced pediatric nurses and physicians who can provide this specialized care.
The Children’s Hospital at Progress West emergency unit is staffed 24/7 by pediatric nurses and Washington University pediatricians. Their entire focus is caring for children with a variety of illnesses and injuries.
“The team here is completely pediatric oriented,” says Kathleen Berchelman, MD. “As a result of our training, our whole approach is geared to children and their family’s needs.”
Common conditions treated by the team include:
Pediatric services at Progress West includes two emergency treatment rooms, as well as four inpatient beds that allow physicians to admit children overnight for observation or treatment. The team works with each child’s pediatrician to ensure the best possible care for general medical needs. Radiology and laboratory services are also available. In cases where more urgent care is required, the staff will quickly arrange for transport to St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
In addition, Washington University pediatricians provide newborn coverage in the Level 1 nursery, and a Washington University neonatologist is on-call at all times.
